Connecting your account
What Garmin asks for, what the code is, and what to do if you don't have a Garmin account.
Garmin wants your Garmin login, not your Passus one
This is behind nearly every connection that fails. The two accounts are separate, and they are usually not the same email and password.
Not this: the email you used to sign in to Passus. Passus has no password at all. You sign in either with a code we email you, or with Google or Apple. You never chose a Passus password, so there is nothing here to reuse.
This: the email and password you use at connect.garmin.com or in the Garmin Connect app. If you have forgotten it, reset it there first, then come back.
Worth checking for a trailing space if you pasted either field. It is a common cause and an invisible one.
The six-digit code
If your Garmin account has two-factor authentication turned on, Garmin emails you a six-digit code the moment we try to sign in. Passus waits for it and asks you to paste it in.
- The code comes from Garmin, not from us. Check the inbox your Garmin account uses.
- It expires quickly. If you leave the page and come back later, start again and use the newest code.
- Garmin may also email a "new sign-in" notice. That is expected, and it means the sign-in worked.
We recommend turning two-factor on if it is off, at Garmin, Account, Security. It is your account; the extra step is worth it.
What happens to your password
It is used once, to ask Garmin for a session token, and then discarded. Passus does not store it.
- Passus only ever reads. Nothing is written to or deleted from your Garmin account.
- The session token is what stays, and it is what syncing uses from then on.
- You can disconnect at any time from the account menu. Deleting your Passus account removes everything.
If you would rather not hand over a password at all, there is a browser-based alternative behind the "Advanced" link on the connect screen. It is fiddlier, and it keeps the password on your own machine.
No Garmin account?
Connect Strava instead. It is one click and no password, because Strava asks you directly rather than going through us.
It is lighter than Garmin. Strava gives us a summary of each activity, so you get your history, your distance records and your map, but not the per-second detail that interval structure, swim sets and same-effort comparisons are built from.
You can add Garmin later. When the same workout exists in both, Passus keeps the Garmin version and hides the duplicate, so nothing gets counted twice.
Still stuck
Email feedback@passus.run with roughly what time you tried. The failure is recorded on our side and we can usually tell what happened from that, without needing anything from your account.
